Inspiration

Inspired from my travels in Japan and other parts of Asia in 2003 this series of prints reflect an interest in the textiles and kimonos of the Japanese culture.
They are a study of the shape of the kimono as structure to build the print on
and then add the various fabric patterns present in the textiles. Many of the kimonos combine ancient texts such as Korean and Chinese
Then Sumi paper brush painted with calligraphic line in various ink colors .

Process & Materials
  1. Cut masonite for the plate to the desired contoured shape and size,
  2. File edge of plate to a 45 degree angle.
  3. Apply wire, paper, glue to the plate.
  4. Apply the ink to the plate
  5. Print by placing the plate on the etching press bed wtih a piece of damp paper onto the inked plate.
  6. Cover the plate with the felt blankets and roll the etching press.
